Campground Closed

From Staff Reports

The Emerald Creek Campground on the St. Joe Ranger District will be closed for a major upgrade this summer.

Acting District Ranger Brad Burmark said it’s time to bring the campground up to standards.

“We plan to improve the entire campground for universal accessibility and for better use by the larger recreational vehicles,” he said.

Curves in the campground road will be made larger to accommodate larger vehicles, the road will be resurfaced and the single sex toilets will be replaced with unisex vault toilets. Fire rings, picnic tables, tentpads, campsites and paths will all be improved.

The cost of the work is expected to run between $100,000 and $250,000.

The nearest available campgrounds to Emerald Creek are Cedar Creek Campground on Idaho State Highway 3, and the Giant White Pine Campground and Laird Park Campground on the Palouse Ranger District.

The Emerald Creek Garnet Area will operate as usual, and the opening day is May 23. It’s open five days a week, and closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
