Squawfish Paying

From Staff Reports

Beginning May 4, anglers once again can earn money by catching squawfish in the Snake and Columbia rivers.

A reward program funded by the Bonneville Power Administration pays anglers $3 for each specimen more than 11 inches long. Anglers who turn in more than 100 squawfish will get paid a higher reward for each fish thereafter.

The program is scheduled to run through September.

Anglers must register at stations along the Snake and Columbia before fishing and follow rules before reporting back to the stations with their fish. Last year, anglers turned in more than 119,000 squawfish for rewards. Info: (800) 858-9015.
