Letters To The Editor
Soccer coverage OK
I’ve noticed in the letters section the last two Sundays people complaining about the lack of soccer coverage. To you I say: Keep up the good work!
Most Americans don’t care about a bunch of people kicking a ball around in their underwear. The coverage The Spokesman-Review gives to soccer is plenty. Don’t weaken your paper with more soccer coverage just because a couple of people griped. Matt Larsen Spokane
A candidate for M’s
I would like to apply for a position as a relief pitcher for the Seattle Mariners.
I can’t throw strikes; I can’t strike anybody out; and I’m easy to hit.
I think I qualify. Larry Brownell Spokane
Chiefs overhyped
All the recent talk about huge Spokane Chiefs games is a joke! There hasn’t been one all season. The objective at the start of the season is to get to the Memorial Cup. As the host team, they have been assured a spot since day one. I don’t understand all the excitement by the media for all those meaningless games. There won’t be a huge game until May 9. Dean Haugen Spokane
Solution for baseball
Major League Baseball executives have been talking about games taking too long to play.
Easy. Lop off the ninth inning. Play eight. Go Mariners! Dennis L.Olsen Spokane
Kudos to Bender
How refreshing to see that loyalty and a sense of obligation still exists in some corners of big-time athletics.
Bob Bender, upon seeing unfinished work and considering his employer, recruits, and family, shunned the high-profile, high-dollar deal Texas was offering in order to remain as men’s basketball coach at the University of Washington. Finally, somebody who looked beyond the bucks and the hype to see more important things in life.
Bob, you are a credit to your program, players, the state of Washington, and the Pac-10! I see the Huskies program going nowhere but up, and as a Cougar to a Husky, I have nothing but the utmost respect for you! Dave Scoville Spokane
