Nate Lynch had a solo homer, his sixth, in the first game.

Eagles sign pair

Marco Quinto from Interlake High School in Bellevue, Wash., and Alex Carcamo from Santa Monica Junior College in California have signed letters of intent to attend Eastern Washington University and play basketball this fall.

Quinto, a 6-foot-5 forward/guard, was a McDonald’s All-America nominee this year. He was selected as the Seattle Times and Eastside Journal 3A Kingco League Player of the Year.

Carcamo, a 6-foot-7 forward, led Santa Monica to a 56-11 record in his two seasons at the school. He is formerly an All-City and All-West Side selection at Hamilton High in Los Angeles.

“We are losing two quality wing players to graduation in Karim Scott and Mike Lewis,” said Eagle coach Steve Aggers, the 1997-98 Big Sky Coach of the Year. “We are very pleased with the two young men we have signed and I know they will both make a positive contribution to our program and the future success of our championship drives.

“Our desire was to sign a junior college player with maturity and game experience and then get a quality young player to grow in the program. We were able to get the experienced player in Alex Carcamo and back him up with a fine freshman prospect in Marco Quinto.”

Quinto averaged 21 points and eight rebounds per game as a senior after averaging 19 points and six rebounds as a junior. A four-year starter, this past year he shot 55 percent from the field and 87 percent from the line.

Carcamo averaged 19 points, nine rebounds and three steals per game as a sophomore this past season at Santa Monica.

“Alex is a 6-7 inside-outside player who has great versatility as a player,” Aggers said. “He has many different skills that should fit in nicely to our system. He is a scorer who can put the ball on the floor and create off the dribble, but is also a good perimeter shooter and an even better offensive rebounder. He has played three different positions in junior college …

“He came within one rebound of averaging a double-double for the season, which are outstanding numbers in a very tough league. Alex is a quality young man with great work habits and desire to be a great player.
