Cda, Lewiston Split Iel Doubleheader
The Coeur d’Alene Vikings split with the Lewiston Bengals, winning the opener 14-4 before falling 11-10 in nine innings in the second game of an Inland Empire League doubleheader Tuesday at Viking Field.
The Viks won by the 10-run rule, stopping the game in the fifth inning of the opener.
Kelli Babcock’s leadoff homer in the fourth inning ignited a 7-run effort. Moments later, Krissi Sampson hit a grand slam. Both homers cleared the 210-foot fence.
Lewiston put CdA in a hole early in the second game, scoring five runs in the first inning.
The Bengals turned around and rallied for five runs in the first inning of the nightcap. The Viks scored three in the third to pull ahead 7-6.
The Bengals (6-4 IEL, 11-7 overall) committed three errors in the bottom of the seventh to allow the Viks to tie at 9-9.
“That first game we hit well (14 hits),” said Larry Bieber, whose Viks stayed even with Lewiston at 6-4 (9-8 overall). “A slow start in the second game let them up by five and we had to fight back the whole game.”
In a non-league game at Lake City, the Timberwolves slid past the Moscow Bears 8-6.
Courtney Zimmerman struck out seven for the T-Wolves and allowed only two earned runs. LC improved to 10-5.
Monica Lang and Kelli O’Hara had two hits and two RBI each for LC.
Moscow’s Emy Makus hit her first home run as the Bears fell to 11-6.

Carmine Terraciano scored three goals and added an assist to help Lake City hammer visiting Lewiston 10-0 in a North Idaho League match.
Connor Quinn racked up three assists for the Timberwolves (9-0, 13-0). Quinn has 15 for the season.
Lewiston dropped to 1-9-1, 1-10-1.
The visiting Moscow Bears defeated the Post Falls Trojans 2-1 in a North Idaho League match.
Moscow had 28 shots on goal and the Trojans were held to just six as they slid to 1-8-1.
Branton Sorbel and Mike Beard each had a goal for the Bears (8-2-2).
Chris Haas scored the lone goal for the Trojans 21 minutes after intermission.
Five yellow cards were issued in the contest.

In an Intermountain League meet between the league’s biggest schools, Lakeland’s girls topped Moscow 84-61 while the Bears boys prevailed 78-64 at Rathdrum.
Kevin Chin led Moscow with three victories - the 100 meters (11.8), 200 (23.7) and long jump (19-8). Teammate Lamar Williams doubled in the hurdles, winning the 110 highs in 16.7 and the 300 intermediates in 41.9.
In the girls, Jessica Banbury led Lakeland with wins in the 100 (13.4) and long jump (16-0). Both are season bests.
