Library District Awards Construction Contract In/Around: Deer Park
The Spokane County Library District’s board of trustees awarded a three-quarter million dollar contract to a north Spokane construction firm for the building of a new library in Deer Park.
Waynco Inc.’s bid of $743,717 was the lowest of eight bids submitted. Interior Solutions Inc., also located on north Spokane, won a $42,357 contract for seating and tables.
“We’re quite pleased with the bids,” library district director Mike Wirt said. “The architect’s construction estimate was about $890,000 and it’s great for a project to come in lower.”
Construction of the 7,300-square-foot library is scheduled to begin at the end of the month.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Saturday.
The building is supposed to be finished in late November.
The new library will be built in a wooded setting at 208 S. Forest, immediately north of the Deer Park Hospital and Health Center, which donated the property to the district.
It will be almost twice the size of the current facility that’s been housed in the basement of city hall since the early 1980s.
A meeting room will be available for library programs and for community groups.
The total project cost is approximately $1.2 million. Primary funding comes from the $7.66 million Capital Improvement Program approved by district voters in the Feb. 1996 bond election.
