Unitarian Church Program Will Focus On The Holocaust

The Spokane Unitarian Universalist Church, 4340 W. Fort George Wright Drive, will host a Holocaust Remembrance program at the church at 7 p.m. today.

The featured speaker will be Dr. James Waller, chair of the psychology department at Whitworth College.

Waller will speak on “Lessons of the Holocaust: The Human Capacity for Indifference, Evil and Good.”

Some of the topics Waller will cover include how ordinary people become capable of committing evil through the devaluation of victims and the role of escalating commitments. Video clips will be included.

The program is open to the public. Donations will be accepted at the door.

The church will also host a Tulip Jubilee Auction at 6 p.m. Saturday. Oral and silent auctions will be held, and refreshments will be served.

Items up for bid during the evening will include river rafting trips, canoe trips, vacations in mountain cabins, car repairs, fine art, crafts and other items.

Proceeds from the fund-raiser will benefit the church’s general fund.

First Presbyterian youths to report

First Presbyterian Church, 318 S. Cedar, will host an Easter Project report from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

The report will be given by the 92 youths who traveled to Mexico to build 10 houses during their spring break.

The evening will include a “tour” of several housing sites, slides and sharing. Refreshments will be served.

St. Stephen’s to host speaker

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 5720 S. Perry, will host guest speaker Sister Mary Christabel at a potluck dinner at 6 p.m. Monday.

Christabel, who will speak on “The Resurrected Life,” is from the Episcopal Community of the Holy Spirit in New York City.
