Hail, Gusting Winds Miss Spokane

From Staff Reports

One-inch hail and winds gusting to 50 mph were reported in the Okanogan region Thursday as a wave of thunderstorms swept through the Inland Northwest.

The National Weather Service reported no serious damage in the Spokane or Coeur d’Alene areas from the first big thunderstorm of the season.

Winds at Spokane International Airport peaked at 32 mph Thursday afternoon, and about a quarter-inch of rain fell in a three-hour period.

One-inch hail fell in Brewster. Large hail also was reported in Othello.

The thunderstorms formed when midday heat in the Columbia Basin sent streams of warm, moist air shooting skyward into colder air aloft.
