Knights Shut Down Wv, 2-0

High school soccer

Nikko Gibson set up a goal in the first minute and added a late score as East Valley defeated West Valley 2-0 Saturday in the Frontier League.

Sean Lanphere turned Gibson’s corner kick into the first goal for the Knights (6-4-2, 2-1-1). Justin Drake of WV (4-3-3, 0-2-2), playing in goal for the second time, made 12 saves.

Elsewhere, Chris Oyolokor scored twice in the first 10 minutes as first-place Cheney (9-2-1, 4-0) notched a 4-2 win at Clarkston (4-5-4, 0-3-1).

Cheney led 4-0 before Dave Fuller scored at 67 minutes.

Great Northern League

Mark Vinhert had two goals and two assists as Riverside (7-0-1) defeated visiting Chewelah 6-1 to maintain a first-place tie with Pullman.

Brett Baker also scored twice for the Rams. The Cougars are 1-7-1.

Elsewhere, Trevor Tharp had a goal and an assist in the first half of Pullman’s 3-1 win over visiting Colville (4-4-1).

Noah Everman also scored for the Greyhounds (7-0-1).

Brandon Bowman fed Mike Chappell for first-half goals 16 minutes apart and visiting Medical Lake (4-4) held off Deer Park 3-2.

Bowman also scored on a header off a corner kick. Spencer Nedved and Jay Recchia of DP (1-9) took turns feeding one another for goals. Recchia scored after using his chest to knock down Nedved’s header pass.
