Three Hits Prove Enough For U-Hi

University made the most of its hits Saturday during a 3-0 win over visiting Ferris in the Greater Spokane League.

The Titans (12-1, 11-0) scored three unearned runs off Kylee Curry (5-8 overall) with three singles. Vanessa Shelton went 1 for 3, with two stolen bases and one run scored as U-Hi logged its 28th consecutive GSL win.

Cheryl Andrizzi (12-0) struck out nine and checked the Saxons (5-8, 5-6) on three singles.

Great Northern League

Tarrah Brown (9-0) pitched a two-hitter and struck out 10 in the opener, and Melissa Wollan struck out nine in the second game as Colville (12-0) swept visiting Colfax 10-0, 6-2.

Wollan had three RBIs in the opener, and she and Ellen Shaw had three hits apiece. Angie McPherson of the Bulldogs (2-12) doubled and scored in the second game.

Elsewhere, Isa Barrans scored twice, the winner on Heather Hoxie’s RBI single, as host Chewelah (5-5) defeated Pullman 2-1 in 11 innings during the first game of a sweep.

The Cougars won the second game 9-6, as Jackie Albertson had a two-run single in the first and Hoxie a two-run double in the second. Christa Brossman had Pullman’s RBI in the first game, and the Greyhounds (5-5) had a four-run sixth in the second game with one hit, two walks and three errors.

Becky Hamel had five RBIs, including a three-run homer, and Amanda Monroe struck out six as visiting Medical Lake (6-6) defeated Newport 16-8 to begin a sweep.

The Cardinals won the second game 14-11. Alicia Almond homered in both games for the Grizzlies (1-11).

At Nine Mile Falls, host Lakeside (4-4) defeated Freeman 15-10 before the Scotties (9-3) rallied for an 18-6 second-game win. No highlights were reported.
