Pirates Board “Titanic”
The box office smash “Titanic,” which has grossed $560.6 million in theaters nationwide, is fast becoming one of the most popular pirated videos on the East Coast. The Motion Picture Association of America’s video piracy unit has seized 1,500 illegal “Titanic” videos from street vendors in New York City alone since January. Some of the pirate tapes, which generally sell for $10, are believed to be copies of the ones Paramount sent to the 5,400 Academy Awards voters, but others are made by people who smuggle camcorders into theaters. Paramount hasn’t decided on an official release date for the official home video.
