Emergency repair funds from storm damage in 1996-97 have been allocated to fix Trout Creek and Ball Creek roads in the Bonners Ferry (Idaho) Ranger District.

Work on Trout Creek will not begin until late August, according to the U.S. Forest Service. The road, which provides access to Trout and Pyramid Lake areas, will be open to the public until around Aug. 25. Construction should be complete by mid-September. The road is narrow and rough and caution is advised, especially in wet weather or after dark.

The Ball Creek work is under way and is scheduled to be complete by mid-September.

Union Creek Road, seven miles up Smith Creek, may have short delays for improvement work on the guardrails. Solomon Lake Road will be closed for up to a week this summer for major culvert installations.

The work to reopen the access to Boulder Meadows is continuing. A short road has been constructed to reach the edge of the meadow.

Volunteer groups and a Private Industry Council youth crew will build a fence to allow people and horses to access the meadows, but keep vehicles out.

A crew is also working on completing trail reconstruction on the East Fork of Boulder Meadows to Kelly Pass. All work should be done by the end of September.
