Man Stabbed To Death
Police are investigating the stabbing death of a transient who was found lying on the pavement in downtown Spokane.
The body was discovered on Trent Avenue, just east of Division Street, about 4 a.m. Saturday.
The victim, a 57-year-old white man, was bleeding from a knife wound. He died later at a hospital.
Police believe he had been sleeping in a sleeping bag behind some bushes in the 100 block of East Trent, near Division. Blood found at the scene indicated he had been stabbed there, then went out into the street and collapsed.
The victim’s name was withheld pending notification of relatives. Police handed out about 100 fliers with the man’s name and picture to people who may have known him.
Police spokesman Dick Cottam said the victim has been in Spokane many years, and has a history of minor alcohol offenses.
