Pistol May Hold Clues

From Staff

A pistol recovered from the Moyie River by divers may belong to a man accused of shooting a Boundary County sheriff’s deputy.

Searchers combed the murky, fast-moving water with a metal detector for less than 30 minutes before they found the pistol Friday.

The suspect, Fred Johnson, remained in satisfactory condition in Boundary Community Hospital on Friday recovering from a gunshot wound to the buttocks. His room is being guarded by officers.

Sheriff’s Sgt. George Voyles was also in satisfactory condition at the same hospital. He is recovering from a shotgun wound to the right leg and groin.
