Bible School Effort Combined Three Congregations Will Offer Neighborhood Program Next Week
Three South Side churches are combining to offer a free neighborhood vacation Bible school next week.
Bethel AME, Centenary United Methodist and Manito United Methodist will offer classes for everyone age 4 through adult.
The school will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday through next Thursday.
A potluck dinner will be served at 6 p.m. next Thursday.
The theme of the event is “Come to the Storytelling Tree.”
The neighborhood school will be at Grant Elementary at Ninth and Perry.
The age-appropriate classes will include crafts, games, music, stories and discussion. Participants may register in advance or at the school on the first night.

Kids will present performances
“Close Encounters with God” is the theme of the vacation church school at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th. The free school will run from 9:30 a.m. to noon Aug. 24-28. Shows will be performed for parents by the kids at 11:45 a.m. daily.
Scheduled performances include puppet shows, plays and musical revues.
The children will make their own props and musical instruments for all the shows.
Other activities will include games, crafts and free pony rides.

Pastoral team installed
St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 316 E. 24th, recently installed a husband and wife team as pastors.
Pastors Beth Jarrett and Eric Dull will join Pastor Richard Finch in ministering to the 1,700 members of St. Mark’s.
Bishop Robert Keller of the Eastern Washington/Idaho Synod performed the installation ceremony Sunday.
The couple attended Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minn., and graduated in 1995.
The couple previously served for three years as pastors of Ocean Park Lutheran Church in Ocean Park, Wash. Rummage sale planned in Cheney Cheney United Methodist Church, 204 Fourth St., will host a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
