Grapetree Park Hearing Postponed

City Council

A public hearing on allowing a mix of shops, offices and apartments along 29th Avenue was postponed by the Spokane City Council until next Monday.

Architect and developer Glen Cloninger is seeking a change in the city’s comprehensive plan to allow for mixed-use zoning.

Cloninger wants to create a different kind of neighborhood at his Grapetree Park development on 29th near Martin Street.

The city currently doesn’t allow mixed-use zoning, but the concept is gaining popularity in other cities as a way to reduce reliance on cars.

City planners and citizens involved in the Horizons process for writing the city’s growth-management plan have indicated support for more mixed-use zoning.

The hearing on Cloninger’s proposal was postponed until 6 p.m. Monday.
