Man Robs Milliways Espresso

A man robbed an employee of a North Side espresso stand on Saturday.

The robbery occurred about 12:30 p.m. at Milliways Espresso at 1602 N. Ash, according to police spokesman Dick Cottam.

The clerk said a white male walked up to the east window of the stand and demanded money from the register.

He was wearing a dark blue pullover jacket, with the jacket pulled up to cover his lower face. He had one hand concealed inside the jacket and by his gestures implied he had a handgun, Cottam said.

He took some cash and ran in the northeast direction. Police checked the area but did not find a suspect.

The man was described as a white male in his late teens or early 20s. He was about 6-feet tall with a thin build and short blond hair. The jacket had black mesh pockets at the midsection.

Fire destroys garage

A garage was destroyed by fire early Sunday along the 2500 block of West Sharp, according to the Spokane Fire Department.

Fire crews were called to the blaze around 2:30 a.m. Neighbors were trying to douse the flames and protect nearby buildings with garden hoses, said battalion chief Joe Snyder.

One neighbor received minor burns while fighting the fire. Fire crews were initially hampered by several downed electrical wires in the alley. Crews were able to keep the fire from spreading.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
