Valley Team Third In Eagles Tourney

A team representing Spokane Valley Baseball Midget League (11-12-year olds) finished third in the Coville Eagles tournament last weekend.

The Spokane team finished 3-1 in the A division, beating Colville 6-5 Sunday morning in the third-place game.

Ryan Yount (Millwood) hit a home run and picked up the save by getting the final batter to fly out to right field with two runners on base.

The Spokane team lost its opener Friday night 5-1 to eventual champion Pasco, despite out-hitting the Tri-Cities team.

To make the trophy game, Spokane beat Pullman 5-4 and Kalispell 10-8, rallying from an 8-4 deficit, on Saturday.

Yount was 6 for 11 in the four games. Karl Womack (University) was 6-10 and A.J. Gosney (Sunrise) was 5-8.

Kenny Zachow and Chad Bucher of Midget champion Otis Orchards, each picked up a win. In eight innings of pitching, both allowed five hits and a combined five runs.

Jason Plecha, who will go to Chase Middle School, had 7 hits in 11 at-bats and gave up one run on two hits in five innings of pitching.

Other players on the team included Brian Danelo (Otis Orchards), Dave Hicks (East Farms), Scott McFarland (University), Tommy Belknap (Chester), James Edwards (Millwood), Nick Burger (South Pines), Blake Trimmer (McDonald), Tyler Luedtke (Sunrise), George Hamilton (East Farms) and Grant Bruscoe (Trentwood).

The team was coached by Cory Rehm, who guided the West Valley team to a tie for the regular-season title in the Giants division.
