Highway Closed Briefly While Crews Fight Fire

From Staff

U.S. Highway 395 was closed for about 30 minutes Friday while crews battled a field fire north of Spokane.

The blaze broke out just before noon near U.S. 395 and Half Moon Road, firefighters said.

The muffler on a farm truck apparently ignited some stubble in a freshly harvested wheat field, said Chief Ed Lewis of Spokane County Fire District 4.

The blaze burned more than 20 acres of stubble and standing barley before fire crews extinguished it, Lewis said.

No buildings were damaged and no one was hurt.
