* Don’t forget, KidsWeek ‘98 kicks off this coming Saturday and promises to be a week full of fun for Spokane’s youth. Here’s a glance at some of what is happening:

* Free bus rides to anyone 17 and under on Aug. 15.

* $2 discounts off youth day passes to Riverfront Park.

* Area businesses will offer specials in The Spokesman-Review all week.

* Teen garage bands play at the Plaza at noon starting Aug. 17.

* Teen cruise for 15- to 18-year-olds on Lake Coeur d’Alene happens Aug. 18. Tickets are $6 in advance (at City Hall or Roxy’s Pizza outlets) or $8 at the boat.

* KidsWeek talent show happens Aug. 21.

* Images, a youth art show, will be on display (and the winners announced) on Aug. 22.

* Battle of the Bands on Aug. 22, wraps up the week of fun.

* The Council on International Educational Exchange, a nonprofit exchange program, needs local host families who will take in students from countries including Brazil, Germany, Spain, Poland and Thailand for the upcoming school year.

Council officials are currently interviewing families that are interested in hosting a student. Host families provide students with a place to sleep and study, as well as meals and a supportive environment. Students have their own spending money and medical insurance and speak English.
