Hot Weather Keeps Mission Pool Open

Valley Mission Pool will stay open two weeks longer than normal because of the hot summer weather.

All three of Spokane County’s Valley pools were supposed to close this Sunday. Terrace View and Park Road pools will stick to that closing date.

But Valley Mission, the busiest of the county’s Valley pools, will remain open until Aug. 28.

An extra session of swim lessons will be offered Monday through Aug. 28. Call Spokane County Parks and Recreation at 456-4730 for more information.

Public swim hours will be available in the afternoons, seven days a week.

One of the challenges in keeping the pool open longer was in lining up employees, said Randy Johnson, recreation program director.

Many of the lifeguards, instructors and other summer employees are teachers or college students, who want to get on with preparations for the school year, he said.

Staffing for the last two weeks at Valley Mission has been pulled from all three Valley pools.
