Kodama Takes Boise Junior Lead
Matt Kodama of Mead shot a 4-under-par 67 Wednesday to take the first-round lead in the American Junior Golf Association’s Boise Junior Classic.
Kodama started his day with three consecutive birdies on Boise’s Warm Springs Golf Club layout and rode his confidence from there.
“I took advantage of the openness of the course,” he said. “I was able to hit my driver a lot, and that is the best club in my bag.”
Others in contention include Bryon McDougall of Wenatchee at 68 and David Fern of Spokane, Brock MacKenzie of Yakima and John Ellis of San Jose, Calif., at 69. Coeur d’Alene’s Dan Potter shot a 70.
In the girls division, Washington State University-bound Raphael Garstecki of Milwaukee took the first-day lead with a 3-over 74.
