Dollar Falls Against Yen

The dollar fell against the Japanese yen Thursday as traders took profits from recent gains and worried about potential action by Japan’s government to support its currency.

The dollar was unchanged against the German mark, recouping earlier losses that came on concern about a possible currency devaluation in Russia, where German banks have significant exposure.

The dollar also suffered from lingering concern that its strength against the yen could force Japanese authorities to enter the market to prop up their currency.
