ADAMS COUNTY Othello

It’s time for the annual Festival of the Arts at the Old Hotel Art Gallery. The Saturday festival will be full of hands-on activities for kids, including a booth where they can make their own T-shirt commemorating the day.

FERRY COUNTY Republic

A six-month investigation into the distribution of marijuana and methamphetamine in Republic came to a close recently as three men pleaded guilty to felony drug charges. Christopher R. Richmond, 19, got a three-month sentence for two counts of delivery of marijuana. Albert J. Vititoe was found guilty of delivery of methamphetamine and sentenced to 41 months in prison. Also sentenced was Douglas R. Richmond, who pleaded guilty to two counts of delivery of marijuana and one count of delivery of hashish. He received 25 months in prison.

GRANT COUNTY Moses Lake

LINCOLN COUNTY Reardan

When the state Department of Transportation was repaving in the area, City Administrator Bruce Johnson arranged for the town to use the grindings from the old asphalt to improve side streets. All told, 10 streets were resurfaced with material donated by the state.

PEND OREILLE COUNTY Metaline Falls

The Cutter Theater is sponsoring a blast from the past with a display of World War II posters. “Posters on the American Homefront, 1941-45” is the latest exhibit on loan from the Smithsonian Institution. The display is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on weekends from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Oct. 2. Rick Masteller will present the lecture “Art on Alert: Posters in WWII,” on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the theater.

SPOKANE COUNTY Fairfield

Fairfield SCOPE is seeking volunteers to boost patrols around the city. Volunteers are needed to staff the Sheriff’s Community-Oriented Policing Effort office and to do evening car patrols. Nervous about the Internet? The Washington State University Stevens County Learning Center is offering workshops on Internet literacy starting this week. Participants will be schooled in e-mail, focused search engines, creating Web pages and basic surfing. WHITMAN COUNTY Pullman

A flower crafts class will be held Saturday at Jane Stratton’s Flower Fall in Pullman. Participants will learn to make wreaths, bouquets and other floral creations from dried flowers starting at 9 a.m. Those interested should call the Pullman Parks and Recreation Center.

BENEWAH COUNTY St. Maries

Citing a dramatic increase in drug use within the county, the Benewah County Sheriff’s Department has proposed forming a drug task force committee. In the past three months, 53 drug-related arrests have been made in Benewah County - 30 involving juveniles.

BONNER COUNTY Priest River

Rick Sample from Priest Lake State Park will present a video and equipment informational meeting on water and boating safety at 7 p.m. tonight at the Luby Bay amphitheater. On Saturday, Catherine Simpson will speak about the old mines, early logging days and resorts at 7:30 p.m.

BOUNDARY COUNTY Bonners Ferry

Idaho Rep. Mike Crapo is scheduled to be at Chic ‘n’ Chop Restaurant at 7:30 p.m. tonight to seek support and funding for his campaign.

KOOTENAI COUNTY Coeur d’Alene

Local firefighters raised more than $35,100 for muscular dystrophy research with last Saturday’s Fill the Boot campaign. North Idaho firefighters retain their position for the seventh year as the state’s top fund-raising area in the national campaign.

LATAH COUNTY Elk River

Elk River Days begin today with a potluck fish fry.

Saturday events include breakfast in the park, a parade, a three-on-three basketball tournament, logging events and barbecue. Shoshone County Wallace The city of Wallace has hired an animal control officer to enforce a leash law beginning Sept. 1.

LINCOLN COUNTY

Libby Christopher J. Barton, 38, was killed last week in an accident at the Stimson Lumber Mill when he was operating a green veneer stacker in the plywood plant. Company officials and investigators from the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the accident.
