Autumn Pedaling Classics

The two best catered bicycling events in the Inland Northwest just happen to be in September:

The Spokane Bicycle Club’s annual Autumn Century Ride isn’t until Sept. 13, but the early registration deadline for the event is Aug. 26. Riders go 25, 62 or 100 miles north of Spokane, with a special category and rate for families. Info: 325-1171.

Tour des Lacs, Sept. 26-27; early registration deadline is Sept. 11. Riders begin in Spokane and head in various directions (including an easy option out the Centennial Trail) toward Lake Coeur d’Alene. The sponsoring Holy Family Foundation also offers an option for a lake cruise at the end. Biking distances range from 40 to 84 miles. Info: 482-2588.
