National parks

An airline company is putting its best foot forward for trails.

American Airlines’ Miles For Trails program proposes to pump nearly $1 million into national parks.

A $20,000 grant will open up nearly four miles of trails within the Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument in southern Idaho.

Hagerman beat out nearly 70 other applicants because of the monument’s unique resources, educational opportunities and local support.

A $40,000 grant will be used to make Glacier National Park’s Running Eagle Falls Trail wheelchair accessible, says Charles Farabee, acting park superintendent.

Running Eagle Falls Trail will be Glacier’s first wheelchair-accessible trail east of the Continental Divide. The Trail of the Cedars, located in the Upper McDonald Valley along Going-to-the-Sun Road, is also wheelchair accessible.
