Stuntman Killed While Watching TV Filming

From Staff

A stuntman died over the weekend after he was injured on the set of the television series “The Crow.”

Marc Akerstream, 44, died in Vancouver General Hospital after he was hit by a piece of debris during a controlled explosion Friday while the series was shooting at Minaty Bay, north of Vancouver.

“The film crew were prepared for the explosion and were well behind a safety rope,” said Cpl. Gary Brine of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. “The piece of debris was sent up in the air, cleared a large tree and came down to strike the victim on the head.”

It was during filming of the original movie version of “The Crow” that actor Brandon Lee - son of martial arts legend Bruce Lee - was killed in an on-set shooting accident in March 1993.

Akerstream’s best friend and fellow stuntman, Lauro Chartrand, said Akerstream was simply a bystander when he suffered the fatal injury.
