Elston Leads Area Qualifiers

Lani Elston of Spokane was one of three players to break par Tuesday in the qualifying round of the 43rd Pacific Northwest Golf Association Junior Girls Amateur tournament.

Sandy Kim of Molalla, Ore., fired a 5-under-par 69 to take medalist honors. Kim was two strokes ahead of Roxanne Somboonsiri of Cornelius, Ore. Elston shot 73.

Spokane’s Michelle Grafos and Jenny Dolph of Pullman also qualified, carding 80s.

The top 16 qualifiers from the field of 60 girls 17 and younger move into the first round of match play today. Kim will be matched against Dolph. The championship match will be played Friday.
