Letters To The Editor

Thanks for saving Corbin Park trees

I’m writing because there is a group of Spokane citizens that needs to be thanked publicly for its good deeds.

Some members of Spokane Preservation Advocates and some Corbin Park neighbors recently spent two Saturday mornings working in Corbin Park.

It became evident that the perimeter row of maple trees was getting badly mauled by the mowers and weed-wackers. The bark was cut and eventually the trees could die.

The citizens took on the project of digging the sod away from all 90 trees to a diameter of six feet, and spreading the bark (supplied by the Park Maintenance Department). The park looks much better and the trees have a far better chance of survival.

It was a neat event to be a part of. These are true “citizens” of Spokane. Many of the volunteers came from neighborhoods far from Corbin Park.

Thanks to everyone that participated. Carolyn Bryan Spokane
