Us West Claims Union Is Stalling

From Staff

A federal mediator ordered US West and the Communications Workers of America to return to the bargaining table today as the strike affecting the phone company’s service in 13 states enters its eighth day.

Talks broke up before noon on Saturday.

Just before federal mediator Jim Mahon’s order Saturday, calling the two sides back together at 2 p.m. today, US West accused the union of stalling and bargaining for just 65 minutes since talks resumed Thursday.

CWA District 7 vice president Sue Pisha later denied the allegation, saying the motive for prolonging the strike rested with the company.
