Day-Care Training Program A Hit

An innovative North Side neighborhood day-care training program developed in cooperation with Holy Family Hospital captured the attention of Sen. Patty Murray during a swing through Spokane this week.

The program teaches potential caregivers how to set up a day care in their home.

Murray is interested in the program as part of her child-care initiative and as a model for similar programs across the country.

The innovative program has attracted attention across the nation. Not yet a year old, the program trains about 120 day-care providers a month now.

“This is a home run,” said Al French, head of the Nevada-Lidgerwood Neighborhood Council.

Affordable day care is especially crucial with the federal welfare reform bill.

The project was developed in cooperation with Holy Family Hospital, the Nevada-Lidgerwood Neighborhood Council, Northwest Regional Facilitators, and the Health Improvement Program to encourage more day-care opportunities for working families.
