Job description: U.S. senators serve six-year terms. The Senate approves legislation, cabinet-level appointments of the president and treaties with foreign governments. Senators receive a salary of $136,700 per year, plus office expenses, health and pension benefits and travel allowance to return to their home state.

The Spokesman-Review solicited the following resumes and cover letters from the 13 senatorial candidates. Eleven responded. The material was edited only for length beyond the limits allowed the candidates. Three of the 11 Nan Bailey, Warren Hanson and James Stokes did not send resumes.
