Schools Get An A

The Spokane School District made a wise move last week in forming an advisory committee to oversee the renovation of Lewis and Clark High School.

The group will include teachers, citizens, school district officials and members of the City-County Historic Landmarks Commission. This will allow local historic preservationists a voice in the design and construction.

By including the expertise of those who care deeply about the city’s historic architecture, the district has a chance to move their energy away from criticism and into constructive problem-solving.

Ultimately, the school board will be required to make tough decisions, which can’t possibly please everyone. But by including more voices in the planning process, the community has a chance to work together to devise the very best solutions for this treasured school.
