Yvette Barrios and Christina Thrasher hit five 3-pointers apiece Tuesday as Boise State defeated Eastern Washington 67-48 in a non-conference women’s basketball game at Reese Court.

Barrios hit back-to-back 3-pointers 46 seconds apart for a 25-18 lead with 6:08 left in the first half.

EWU (1-4) scored the next five points, but another 3-pointer by Barrios and two by Thrasher to close out the first half gave the Broncos (3-2) a 36-23 lead. The Eagles never came closer than nine points in the second half.

BSU finished 12 of 24 from long range, with Thrasher hitting all five attempts.

Tracy Ford of the Eagles scored 17 of her 19 points in the second half. Ford hit 7 of 9 shots from the floor in the second half.

Nieman wins weekly award

University of Idaho forward Alli Nieman earned Big West Conference player of the week honors this week after setting five tournament records at the Coors Classic in Boulder, Colo.

Nieman, the tournament’s most valuable player, averaged 28 points and 11 rebounds in two games and shot 51.3 percent.

Nieman, a junior, set tournament records for most points (56), field goals (20), field-goal attempts (39), free-throw attempts (25) and most free-throws attempted in a game (14). The Big West player of the week award is Nieman’s third.

NIC men prevail

Johnny Goodman was good indeed.

Goodman scored 28 points, hitting 8 of 15 3-pointers, to lead North Idaho College to a 78-65 non-conference men’s basketball win over Skagit Valley in Mt. Vernon, Wash.

The Cardinals (5-0) finished 12 of 24 from long range and 28 of 58 from the field. They also hit 77 percent from the free-throw line.
