Man Critical After Downtown Stabbing

From Staff

A 35-year-old Spokane man was in critical condition Tuesday after being stabbed in a downtown apartment building, police said.

The attack took place just before 11 p.m. Monday at a building in the 200 block of South Washington.

Officers responding to a call for help found the victim lying in a hallway bleeding heavily from a chest wound, police spokesman Dick Cottam said in a press release.

The man, whose name wasn’t released, was taken to a local hospital where he underwent surgery.

Police questioned several witnesses, including a woman who was seen with the victim at the nearby Mayfair Lounge shortly before the stabbing.

Cottam said detectives are calling her a “person of interest,” but she hasn’t been arrested.
