Corbin Center Sponsoring Wellness Day
The Corbin Senior Activities Center at 827 W. Cleveland is hosting Senior Wellness Day today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is free, though some tests have a fee, and open to all seniors.
This event is being run with the help of Nicole Lamoure and Shelly Messinger, students at Gonzaga University, who organized it for their senior project.
LeasX Inc., a local leasing business, is sponsoring the event.
There will be free health screenings, safety information from the Red Cross, nutrition information from the Holy Family Nutritional Services, mini-massages, discussions related to aging and a performance by a senior citizen clogging group called Mary Ann Tripp’s Happy Feet Cloggers.
Door prizes will be given away and all participants will receive a free T-shirt.
Here is a list of the screenings available:
Cholesterol, requires a two-hour fast; cost is $8.
Lipid, includes good and bad cholesterol, total cholesterol and triglycerides, requires overnight fast; $17.
Diabetes, requires two-hour fast; $8.
Immunization, tetanus and diptheria booster available; $13.
Colon cancer, hemoccult stool test to do at home and return by mail; $8.
And the following screening tests are available at no charge.
Blood pressure.
Breathing/lung test.
Hearing and vision.
Mental status.
