Rogers Students Painting Mural

Art students at Rogers High School will paint a mural on the Away Car at the Hillyard Heritage Museum early next year.

Rogers art teacher and local artist will supervise the project, said Larry Thomas, chair of the Greater Hillyard Business Association’s Mural Committee.

The GHBA’s Mural Committee is sponsoring the project.

The mural will depict World War I movements at the Hillyard Station. The students have original photographs from which they are working to create the mural.

Later, another mural is planned for the south wall of the Hillyard Florist shop. It will depict the bakery that was there before the early 1900s, said Thomas.

Another mural of the Washington Water Power Trolley that was present during the turn of the century is planned for the east wall of Safeway at 4512 N. Market.

That mural is being sponsored by Washington Water Power, Safeway and the Mural Committee. Due to its size, the cost is more than other murals, and the committee is looking for more sponsors to support the project, according to Thomas.

He said the committee is seeking other interested artists who may be interested in the project. For more information call Thomas at 489-5001.
