Train Display Chugs Into Bonner Museum

From Staff

Local train buffs have assembled a model train display called “All Aboard for Christmas” at the Bonner County Museum for the sixth year in row.

The exhibit features four gauges of model trains and historic photos by railroad historian Larry Shawer. One of the railroad displays features an 8-foot-long model of the railroad bridge across Lake Pend Oreille.

One display covers 400 square feet, and another covers 800 square feet.

“Railroading is an important part of Bonner County’s history,” said Paul Rechnitzer, a local railroad historian who started the annual Christmas display.

The exhibit is open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Jan. 2. Admission is free.

The museum will be open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays through the winter. Research days are Tuesdays and Thursdays. Admission on those days is $2.
