Tree Lighting Included In Fund-Raising Program

The Spokane Valley Good Samaritan Village will hold a tree lighting ceremony Thursday at its campus at 17121 E. Eighth.

The lighting ceremony, which begins at 7:30 p.m., is part of the assisted-living center’s “Tree of Light” fund-raising program.

The Jim Templeton jazz trio will begin the celebration at 6:30.

The fund-raiser began Nov. 27 and will last until the end of the year. Proceeds go toward purchasing a six-passenger wheelchair-accessible bus.

People can purchase a light for the tree, for a donation of $10 through the end of December.

Good Samaritan still has $5,000 to raise for the bus, said Tamara Gordon, director of housing and development.

Pet microchip clinic today

The Spokane County Animal Shelter and Pet Rescue are sponsoring a pet microchip and licensing clinic from 1 to 4 p.m. today at the Spokane County Animal Shelter, 2521 N. Flora Road.

Microchips cost $18 with proof of current license.

Dr. John Freeman from the Millwood Animal Clinic will administer the microchips.

WV SCOPE Christmas potluck

West Valley SCOPE will hold its annual Christmas potluck dinner at 6 p.m. Friday .

The meeting will be held at the Millwood Town Hall, 9103 E. Fredrick. The public is invited.

A Christmas donation will be made to the Spokane Valley Food Bank.

West Valley SCOPE will also be accepting donations for its Toys for Tots program.

4-H symphony tryouts

The 4-H Junior Symphonic Band and the 4-H Senior Symphonic Ensemble will hold the first in a series of tryouts Monday .

Tryouts begin at 3:30 p.m. in the lower level of the Spokane County Agricultural Building, 222 N. Havana. All youth, not just 4-H members, can attend.

The junior band is open to 100 musicians in grades five through eight. The senior ensemble is open to 100 musicians in grades nine through 12.

The next two tryouts will be Dec. 14 and Dec. 21 at the same time and place.

Participants will play scales and an etude of their choice.
