Diverse Holidays All Share The Same Focus On Hope, Love

Annie Kirking Lewis & Clark

It’s that time of year again when every day the sun shines a little less and the snow falls a little more and the minds of people everywhere turn to a single subject: the holidays.

Not just presents and carols, or even turkey and mistletoe; they think of the meaning of the holidays themselves.

Whether it’s Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa or even New Year’s, the spirit is the same.

While our variety of holidays is a testament to our grand diversity, it serves at the same time to remind us how similar we truly are.

Each holiday has its customary ceremonies and traditions, but they all come down to the same things.

Hope.

Light in a time of darkness.

Love where there is hate.

Fulfillment where there is longing.

Above all, whatever it is we are celebrating this holiday season, it is the spirit of hope.

As we approach the coming frenzy of gift shopping and cross-country travel, remember the magic you felt as a tiny child.

Remember the simple joys that have a way of getting lost in the shuffle, and remember that your neighbor, regardless of his or her religion or beliefs, is rediscovering the same joy which we hope you have once again found in your heart.
