Dollar Up In Thin Trading

The dollar rose against major currencies in light trading Monday, boosted by rising U.S. stocks that sent the Nasdaq Stock Market to a record high.

Otherwise, traders had little political or economic news to direct their foreign exchange transactions, keeping the dollar in tight trading ranges.

“For the lack of any other reason, they are buying dollars. The volume out there is so minimal, it seems we have entered into the holiday doldrums a little early,” said Robert Houck, a foreign exchange vice president at Norwest Bank Corp. in Minneapolis.
