Locke Wants To Extend State Reading Corps

From Staff

Gov. Gary Locke on Tuesday proposed reauthorizing the Washington Reading Corps, a pet project that has brought tutors to more than 18,000 students across Washington.

The governor said he would ask the Legislature for $16 million to extend the program two more years. The money is largely used for training volunteers in the art of teaching reading to struggling students.
