Adams County Othello
“Winnie the Pooh” will take the stage at Lutagaca Elementary School this weekend. Performed by the Othello High School Drama Club, the play stars Terry Cerrillo as Pooh-Bear, and Jon McClintick as his best friend Christopher Robin. The curtain goes up at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Ferry County Republic
The first measurable snowfall of the season dumped 5 inches on Republic’s city streets, and 8 inches in the high country. The Dec. 7 storm left a number of fender-benders and mishaps in its wake. The week of Dec. 1-7 showed a daytime high of 40 degrees and an overnight low of 19 degrees.
Grant County Coulee City
It’s the battle of the banks, with the loser slaving over a hot oven. Challenging each other to sell the most greeting boards for the Community Christmas Card, both Mid State Bank and Sterling Savings have sold 67 name placards. The winners will eat hot, banker-made cinnamon rolls.
Lincoln County Creston
Creston Community Church is staging a Living Nativity Scene complete with shepherds, wise men, the holy family, angels and animals 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at 110 N.E. Foster.
Pend Oreille County Cusick
The Pend Oreille County Fair Board recently elected officers. Jim Mathis will continue to chair the group, with Archie Schrader keeping his vice-chair post. Ann Elliott will maintain her role as treasurer, with Kim Cress the sole newcomer, taking over a vacant post as secretary.
Spokane County Cheney
Cheney-area residents may now register for a variety of winter recreation classes, from swimming to adult watercolor to sharpening baby-sitting skills. For more information, call the Cheney Parks and Recreation Department at (509) 235-7295.
Stevens County Chewelah
In a battle for Stevens County supremacy, Chewelah Mayor Ron McCoy has challenged Colville Mayor Duane Scott to a shootout. Backed by their city hall staffs, police and road crews, the mayors will take to the basketball court to hoop it up for charity Friday at 7 p.m. at the Jenkins High School gym. All proceeds will go to buy Christmas presents for the 27 children in the county’s foster program.
Whitman County Colfax
The Whitman County Auditor’s Office invites the public to an open house Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. The county will present its one-step indexing, imaging and searching system. The public may use the system to look up marriages, property, deeds and other contracts held by the office.
IDAHO
Benewah County St. Maries
First place in the St. Maries lighted Christmas parade went to Old No. 1, a 1937 Chevrolet fire engine. The truck was decorated with trees, chaser lights and signs wishing spectators happy holidays. Elaine Phillips and Sheryl Sullivan designed the float.
Bonner County Sandpoint
A minimum stream flow level has been issued on a 20-mile stretch of Priest River. A minimum flow of 1,500 cubic feet per second from April 1 to June 30 will be reduced to 700 CFS from July 1 to July 31. From Aug. 1 to Oct. 31, the minimum flow will be 300 CFS, and then raised to 700 CFS from Nov. 1 to March 31.
Boundary County Bonners Ferry
A Gift Tree has been trimmed and decorated at the Community Thrift Store with tags bearing the names of needy children. The tree is a collaborative effort between the Thrift Store and the Community Action Agency. The thrift store is location on Cody Street. Kootenai County Coeur d’Alene
The Post Falls Planning and Zoning Commission has appointed Daniel Thompson to fill the seat vacated by Rick Clutter. Thompson is a Post Falls resident of two years and Kootenai County resident of 20 years. He is a former member of the Coeur d’Alene Board of Realty and is the production manager for Plastic Model Engineer.
Latah County Moscow
A fourth candidate has been added to the list of finalists for the position of alumni director at the University of Idaho. Eldonna Gossett is the executive director of the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and was president of the Idaho Association of Chambers of Commerce in 1998. Gossett joins John Selberg, Harold Gibson and C.J. Peterson as finalists to replace former Alumni Director Wayne Rush. The candidates are interviewing at UI this week.
Shoshone County Wallace
The annual Christmas Radiothon to help various charitable organizations in the Silver Valley raised $10,206 Dec. 11. Last year the fund-raiser raised $11,176. People can still send in pledges to the clerk’s office at the Shoshone County Courthouse. Funds raised are divided among the Dave Smith Memorial Fund, Judy Lavergne Fund and the Mullan Tree of Sharing.
MONTANA
Lincoln County Libby
Public comment on a new name for what is now the Lincoln County Campus of Flathead Valley Community College is being accepted through Dec. 18. The proposed names are Big Sky Community College, Kootenai Valley Community College and Northwest Montana College at Libby. Comments should be sent to Student Government, Lincoln County Campus, 101 E. Lincoln Blvd., Libby, MT 59923. The county commissioners and FVCC will approve or deny the request.
