Clerk Helps Nab Forgery Suspect
A supermarket clerk helped apprehend a West Valley man suspected of forgery on Saturday.
The clerk, who was working at the Albertson’s store at 8851 E. Trent, said the suspect tried to cash a $350 check drawn on the account of another store employee.
The clerk saw that the handwriting on the check was clearly not her colleague’s.
She asked the man, who police identifed as Stuart W. Pearson, 22, of 2611 N. Dale, for identification.
The clerk copied down all Pearson’s information, returned his ID and asked him to return Monday when they could approve the check.
She then followed Pearson out of the store and watched him go to a nearby residence.
Deputies arrested Pearson and recovered the checkbook in an old car parked behind the house.
The store employee on whose account the check was written said he did not know how his checkbook was lost or stolen.
