Temporary Kaiser Workers Report Hit-Run

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a hit-and-run accident involving temporary workers outside Kaiser’s Mead smelter.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday after a blue sedan bearing a “Support Kaiser Steelworkers” sticker struck a car driven by a temporary worker at the intersection of Hawthorne and Nevada.

The driver and the occupants of a second car belonging to a temporary worker got out to confront the driver of the sedan.

The sedan’s driver, described as a white male with short brown hair, tried to run over the temporary workers, according to Sheriff’s Lt. Gerry Fojtik.

One temporary worker was treated and released from Holy Family Hospital with leg injuries.
