Logging Protesters Face Jail After Convictions In Federal Court

Four timber sale protesters were convicted this week in federal court of impeding road construction in the Nez Perce National Forest.

John Terry, 33, of Moscow, and Robert Zweifel, 28, of Boise, were found guilty of refusing to leave platforms suspended in trees while trying to stop road construction, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office. Zweifel faces sentencing in February on two counts of maintaining an unauthorized improvement and Terry on one count.

In related cases, Jonathan Crowell, 23, of Moscow, and Jeremy Oday, 21, of Alberton, Mont., were convicted of aiding and abetting Terry and Zweifel by attempting to bring them water. All four men face six months in prison and $500 fines.

A jury acquitted Jessica Baldwin, 22, of Moscow, of aiding and abetting the maintenance of an unauthorized structure.
