Eastern Washington Signee Ready For His Belated Debut

Junior forward Alex Carcamo, a 6-foot-7, 210-pound transfer from Santa Monica Junior College in Santa Monica, Calif., is expected to make his Eastern Washington University men’s basketball debut against Evergreen State Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. at Reese Court in Cheney.

A letter of intent signee last spring, Carcamo recently concluded class work at Santa Monica toward his associate of arts degree.

Now enrolled for Eastern’s winter quarter that starts in January, Carcamo has been cleared to play nine games into the season.

As a sophomore last season at Santa Monica, Carcamo averaged 19 points, nine rebounds and three steals. He helped his team post a 56-11 record in two seasons. He is a 1995 graduate of Hamilton High School in Los Angeles.

EWU coach Steve Aggers said the addition of Carcamo will allow the Eagles to eventually move leading scorer Shannon Taylor to the off-guard position. Taylor is averaging 13.8 points, but is shooting 33.1 percent while playing small forward.
