Man Arrested After Van Catches Fire

A north Spokane man was arrested late Sunday after sheriff’s deputies spotted him walking away from a van that burst into flames moments later, deputies said.

David W. Darlow, 40, was booked into the Spokane County Jail on a charge of second-degree arson and resisting arrest.

Deputy Tim Greenfield was called to a parking lot behind a business at 6400 N. Division on a domestic dispute. He talked to the couple, who were inside the van, and they said everything was fine, deputies said.

Greenfield was suspicious of the couple and watched the lot for about 10 minutes before they left the van and went into a nearby tavern, deputies said.

The man walked back to the van, was inside for a few minutes and then walked westbound on Division while flames erupted in the front seat of the vehicle, deputies said.

Greenfield chased the man. No one was injured and the van sustained minor damage.
