Credit Union Branch Robbed

The Global Credit Union branch at Tidyman’s grocery store was robbed early Tuesday morning.

Minutes after the bank’s 9 a.m. opening, a man walked to the counter and handed a teller a note demanding money.

She complied and gave the man an undisclosed amount of cash. The man then walked out of the store at 13014 E. Sprague and got into a blue or silver two-door car, witnesses said.

Tidyman’s workers said they didn’t notice a thing.

One man working in the photo lab just yards away from the bank said he didn’t know there had been a burglary until he took a package to the bank’s counter and was greeted with yellow police tape and signs reading “Bank temporarily closed due to robbery.”

Bank representatives and sheriff’s deputies said the man didn’t brandish a gun. The teller followed standard procedure of obeying the person passing a robbery note, said Global Credit Union spokesman Ed Neunherz.

The thief was described as a white man in his late 20s or early 30s, 5 feet 8 inches tall and about 150 pounds. He had dark hair, a mustache and was wearing khaki-colored insulated overalls, black knit gloves and a black baseball cap and dark glasses, police said.

Cameras were on during the robbery, Neunherz said. Those tapes will be supplied to FBI investigators.
