Man Charged With Assaulting Officer

From Staff Reports

A minor vandalism spree Wednesday ended when a Spokane man was arrested after hitting an officer in the face, police said.

Charles J. Ehrgott, 28, was booked into the Spokane County Jail on charges of second-degree malicious mischief and third-degree assault.

Ehrgott had been fired from his job and a north Spokane business refused to cash his paycheck Wednesday afternoon, police said.

He became violent, kicking and damaging cars as well as seriously damaging the sign for The Shed Restaurant, 1801 N. Division, police said.

Officers caught up with him about 3:15 p.m. near Division and Indiana. When they attempted to arrest him, Ehrgott hit one of the officers and a struggle ensued, police said.
